West Tennessee Old Marine Military Hospital & National Ornamental Metal Museum Buildings. 374 Metal Museum Drive, Memphis, Tennessee 38106. HISTORY OF MANIFESTATIONS: Big renovations of old buildings can stir up paranormal activity. As with many former Military Installations and hospitals, some of these buildings are home to spirits of military and civilian population who died here. (MacArthur Military Museum * Fort Hayes School * Provential Hotel * Fort Bridger * Carnton Mansion) The hospital and its buildings were used to take care of the yellow fever victims, some of which didn't make it. Unexpected death from disease can cause hauntings.(Bullock Hotel * Meade Hotel * Lafitte's Guest House) Buildings which housed morgues sometime in their history are known to have some entities still hanging around. (Stone Lion Inn * Maumee Bay Brewing Company) The basement of the nurses' residence was turned into another morgue, during the yellow fever epidemics. The basement of the Doctor's Residence House used to be the morgue, where the dead were sent, via body chute. The body chute was taken out, and a stairway was put in, taking the living down to the basement. Many former hospitals found on this site seem to have entities not willing to let go and hang around the building, stuck in their pain, in their traumas, their worries of this world, and disappointments on how things turned out for them. by - haunted house

If you hear a knock at your front door and you get up to answer it only to find no one there, open the door wide for a couple of seconds and then close it. This will let a good spirit in. But don’t open it again if there are more knocks. Not even if they continue for the rest of the night. You might just be inviting an evil spirit into your home. And if there are three knocks the first time around, don’t open the door at all! If there is a knock at your back door, it is the devil himself looking to come in. Superstitions surrounding door-knocking abound in many different cultures and it’s no surprise that after the invention of doorbells, they started to be included as well. For example, in some places it is believed that if a doorbell rings continuously for no reason, something dreadful has happened or is about to happen. Whitney Houston’s mother revealed in a letter that her doorbell had mysteriously started ringing the day her daughter died. She firmly believed that Whitney had come to visit her and was making her presence known by ringing the doorbell.A woman in east Tennessee claims to have had a similarly chilling experience. After moving into a new house, Emily Miller was woken by the sound of her doorbell ringing at three in the morning. She got up, disgruntled, only to find there was no one at the door. For the next couple of weeks, the bell rang at least every second morning at three o’clock. No logical explanation could be found, even after the installation of a motion sensor camera at the front door and calls to local police. No one was ever there. Weeks stretched into months and then years until finally Emily had had enough. She had her son rip the doorbell out of its mounting and throw it away. That night, the now-missing doorbell rang again ,, art by photobucket tale listverse

Cawdor Castle , Scotland ~ The earliest documented date for the castle is 1454, the date a licence to fortify was granted to William Calder, 6th Thane of Cawdor (or Calder, as the name was originally spelled). However, some portions of the 15th-century tower house or keep may precede that date. Architectural historians have dated the style of stonework in the oldest portion of the castle to approximately 1380. One curious feature of the castle is that it was built around a small, living holly tree. Tradition states that a donkey, laden with gold, lay down to rest under this tree, which was then selected as the site of the castle. The remains of the tree may still be seen in the lowest level of the tower. Modern scientific testing has shown that the tree died in approximately 1372 ,,, info wiki

Savannah, GA. The most evil and haunted house in Savannah. The guide told people to not even walk up the steps. The Benjamin J. Wilson House was built in 1868. Folklore reveals a house of death, murder and suicide. It is said to be one of the most haunted houses in Savannah. It is said to have paranormal activity and a negative emotion emanating from the house. Located at 432 Abercorn Street across from the Calhoun Square. There are no tours offered through the house but there is no need. Simply exploring the exterior was intriguing enough. Somehow we did see beauty in this Greek Revival structure, but it was shadowed by a deep darkness of wonder of what we had read happened there. Haunted or not we really don't know. But we do know it will leave an everlasting impression and desire to learn more. Through this obsession we have spent many hours after our visit researching the house and have found little information to prove any of the legends factual. Guess you will have to decide yourself.
Voodoo superstitions and spells Many superstitions also related to the practice of Hoodoo developed within the Voodoo tradition in Louisiana. While these superstitions are not central to the Voodoo faith, their appearance is partly a result of Voodoo tradition in New Orleans and have since influenced it significantly. A lock of a girl's hair brings good luck. If you lay a broom across the doorway at night, a witch can't come in and hurt you. Having a woman visit you the first thing on Monday mornings is bad luck for the rest of the week. Don't borrow or lend salt because that is bad luck. If you sweep trash out of the house after dark you will sweep away your luck. Don't shake a tablecloth outside after dark or someone in your family will die. To stop a Voodoo spell being placed upon you, acquire some bristles from a pig cooked at a Voodoo ritual, tie the bristles into a bundle and carry them on you at all times. If a woman sprinkles some salt from her house to yours, it will give you bad luck until you clean the salt away and put pepper over your door sill. If a woman wants her husband to stay away from other women, she can do so by putting a little of her blood in his coffee, and he will never quit her. If a woman's husband dies and you don't want her to marry again, cut all of her husband's shoes all in little pieces, just as soon as he is dead, and she will never marry again. You can give someone a headache by taking and turning their picture upside down. You can harm a person in whatever way you want to by getting a lock of his hair and burning some and throwing the rest away. You can make a farmer's well go dry by putting some soda in the well for one week, each day; then drawing a bucket of water out and throwing it in the river to make the well go dry. A person can make you get very thirsty by putting a whiskey bottle under your porch for three weeks, and then throwing the bottle into a fire which will make you very thirsty for whiskey. If you take a strand of hair out of a person's head and wear it in your pocket for two days, it will give that person a headache. It is a known act for a woman to put her menstrual blood in the food of a man to make him fall in love with her. If a woman kisses you twice on one cheek and once on the other cheek, she is trying to hoodoo you
Born in New Orleans, LaLaurie married three times over the course of her life. She maintained a prominent position in the social circles of New Orleans until April 10, 1834, when rescuers responding to a fire at her Royal Street mansion discovered bound slaves within the house who showed evidence of torture over a long period. A version of this story circulating in 1836, recounted by Martineau, added that the slaves were emaciated, showed signs of being flayed with a whip, were bound in restrictive postures, and wore spiked iron collars which kept their heads in static positions. LaLaurie's house was subsequently sacked by an outraged mob of New Orleans citizens, and it is thought that she fled to Paris, where she is believed to have died ,,

Forest Home Cemetery is home to over 110,000 burials -Milwaukee, WI Established in 1850, a church committee situated the cemetery of the original 72 acres on a known former Indian village and sacred effigy and burial mound site. The first burial, a gentleman of the name Orville Cadwell, occurred on August 5 in the same year of the cemetery's founding. Cadwell found company shortly thereafter, as a cholera outbreak traced to a riverman from New Orleans via Chicago claimed lives in the newly-chartered city. Post Civil War saw a boom in industry and with it, a boom in population. The dangers of industrial city life lurked here as in any other city of the time. In 1883 Newhall House Hotel went up in flames as Milwaukee firefighters battled a smaller fire elsewhere in the city. Calls went out for reinforcements from Chicago and Racine with little to no response. Documents of the time report a range of 73-90 deaths from the tragedy. All accounts agree that more than half of those who perished and brought to several area morgues were beyond identification. A mass grave for 64 victims commemorates the unknown with a memorial erected at the one-year anniversary of the fire. In 1886 another notable tragedy occurred, as 14,000 laborers organized in Bay View to demonstrate discontent with labor conditions. The governor of the time issued a shoot-to-kill order, resulting in a 7 person massacre, including a young 13-year-old boy. The mayor of this time, Emil Wallber, is one of the cemetery's distinguished guests. Photographer, writer Corey Schjoth

According to Zohar, Lilith is the name of Adam's first wife, who was created at the same time as Adam. She left Adam and refused to return to the Garden of Eden after she mated with archangel Samael. Her story was greatly developed, during the Middle Ages, in the tradition of Aggadic midrashim, the Zohar and Jewish mysticism. The Zohar tradition has influenced Jewish folkore, which postulates God created Adam to marry a woman named Lilith. Outside of Jewish tradition,Lilith was associated with the Mother Goddess, Inanna – later known as both Ishtar and Asherah. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh was said to have destroyed a tree that was in a sacred grove dedicated to the goddess Ishtar/Inanna/Asherah. Lilith ran into the wilderness in despair. She then is depicted in the Talmud and Kabbalah as first wife to God's first creation of man, Adam. In time, as stated in the Old Testament, the Hebrew followers continued to worship "False Idols", like Asherah, as being as powerful as God. Jeremiah speaks of his (and God's) displeasure at this behavior to the Hebrew people about the worship of the goddess in the Old Testament. Lilith is banished from Adam and God's presence when she is discovered to be a "demon" and Eve becomes Adam's wife. Lilith then takes the form of the serpent in her jealous rage at being displaced as Adam's wife. Lilith as serpent then proceeds to trick Eve into eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge and in this way is responsible for the downfall of all of mankind. It is worthwhile to note here that in religions pre-dating Judaism, the serpent was known to be associated with wisdom and rebirth (with the shedding of its skin).
An incubus (nominal form constructed from the Latin verb, incubo, incubare, or "to lie upon") is a demon in male form who, according to a number of mythological and legendary traditions, lies upon sleepers, especially women, in order to have sexual intercourse with them ,, An incubus may pursue sexual relations with a woman in order to father a child, as in the legend of Merlin. Religious tradition holds that repeated intercourse with an incubus or succubus may result in the deterioration of health, or even death
A mare or nightmare (Proto-Germanic: *marōn; Old English: mære; Old Norse: mara; German: Nachtmahr) is an evil spirit or goblin in Germanic folklore which rides on people's chests while they sleep, bringing on bad dreams (or "nightmares"). The mare is often similar to the mythical creatures succubus and incubus, and was likely inspired by sleep paralysis.

Moundsville West Virginia built 1876 , West Virginia Penitentiary Prisons are often the places of unhappy, angry people and death by the hands of authorities or by other prisoners happened. Thus, prisons are a great place to find ghosts of people who have had traumatic experiences or have even died there, and can't quite leave just yet. (Alcatraz * Fort Delaware) 1) Maintenance Man who lived in the basement - Is often seen by the living wandering around the bathroom area of this basement. Most often seen ghost. The maintenance man made it his hobby to report the wrong doings of inmates to the guards, which must have made him feel important and superior. The inmates got together and shivved him with homemade knives, while he was sitting on the toilet. 2) Arvil Paul Adkins - Is thought to haunt the gallows area. One of many botched hangings: He was up on the scaffold, but the trap door opened prematurely and he fell down through the hole, landing on his head, becoming badly injured. The guards took him back up on the scaffold and hung him correctly this time. 3) Inmate Roberts haunts his cell block and the room where he met his death. It was reported that his body was buried behind a wall. Cincinnati Enquirer, Nov. 30, 1886 - Reported that that many deaths were caused by the wardens, who had been known to torture misbehaving inmates with ice cold water in the face while being held in stocks. The really bad inmates were given with near death beatings, tied to a Kicking Jenny. Inmate's feet were clamped to the floor, while their bodies were bent over a kicking Jenny, with their hands tied above their heads on blocks. How lovely!!! 4) The winter recreation room in the basement, called the Sugar Shack, has been the hotbed of paranormal activity. Though no one was killed here, a lot of violence, probably inmate rape/sex and other injuries happened here because they were very loosely supervised by guards. 818 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville, West Virginia 26041 - 304-845-6200 by - haunted house

Palencia Spain as known now had been known as the fortified Celtiberian settlement that was mentioned as Pallantia (Παλλαντία) by Strabo andPtolemy, a version possibly of the Celtic root pala ("plain"). It was the chief town of the Vaccaei, although Strabo wrongly assigns it to the Arevaci. The city was starved into submission by the Romans in the 2nd century BCE and incorporated into the province of Hispania Tarraconensis, in the jurisdiction of Colonia Clunia Sulpicia (modern Clunia). Though the little Roman garrison city was an active mint, it was insignificant compared to the Roman villas of Late Antiquity in the surrounding territory. Archeologists have uncovered the remains of Roman villas at La Olmedaand at the "Quintanilla de la Cueza", where the fragments of mosaic floors are spectacularly refined. According to the 5th-century Galician chronicler Idatius, the city of Palencia was all but destroyed in 457 info wikipedia , artist listed on photo

Haunted St. John Bridge Portland Oregan -> Located in St. Johns, just under the east side of the St. Johns Bridge (indeed, the bridge itself provides the parks name), Cathedral Park is a study in contractions. Built under one of the final gothic style bridges in the country, Cathedral Park was not always the idyllic location Portlanders find it today. Once a location for flagrant prostitution, drug dealing, and other unsavory actions, Cathedral Park claimed its first spirit; when poor Thelma Taylor, a 14-year old girl, was kidnapped, beaten, and finally death days later underneath the bridge. While Portland police will not confirm or deny the calls, many a local reside have made claims of an unearthly scream coming from the park. Each time the police find no evidence of the screaming girl. In recent years, Cathedral Park (and most of St. Johns) has gone through a positive metamorphosis. No longer a haven for illegal activities, Cathedral Park is one of the more pleasant parks within the city… until the sun goes down and the spirits rise. info by geekinthecity info by wikipedia, states the girl was 15
